Indian River, Burt Lake, and Mullett Lake

One of the best ways to enjoy your visit to Twin Bears Wooded Campground is to get out on the water! No boat? No problem. Our friends at Howe Marine have been in business since 1938, located on Indian River, between Burt Lake and Mullett Lakes amid the finest cruising waters in the country, called “The Inland Waterway, ” a chain of lakes and rivers for boating, fishing, water skiing, tubing, and swimming. The Indian River flows through downtown, connecting Burt Lake, which has a beautiful sandy beach, and Mullett Lake, which is very deep. The Crooked River has a lock to lower boats two feet from the Crooked River into Burt Lake. The fast-moving Sturgeon River is a great destination for an afternoon of canoeing, rafting, and kayaking, and there are safe, reliable guides and equipment available.

The Fine Print for State Parks: A Recreation Passport is required to bring a vehicle into all Michigan state parks and forest campgrounds ($14 cash, check, or card at entrance). Straits Hwy, Indian River has groceries and fishing licenses for $10 a day/$76 annually) to fish at Burt Lake; please carry your license and the ID used to purchase it with you.
